As our name suggests, we offer a hybrid method of window cleaning. We have mixed the highly successful traditional techniques with the modern genius of purified water technology. Though it won’t matter to everyone how we get the job done you can rest easy knowing you have hired a professional!
A hundred years ago window washers carried a bucket, wooden ladder and used a sponge and chamois to clean the windows. We have come a long way since then.
Traditional tools include a microfibre applicator or washing pad, a robust and adjustable squeegee handle with high quality rubber, along with dozens of other useful gadgets. The hands-on attention with this method can produce fantastic results! Some will argue this is the best way to clean glass and depending on the situation we are unlikely to disagree. Hybrid Window Cleaning has used this method for almost 15 years!
There are definitely times that traditional window cleaning is not practical or suitable for the task. This is where purified water systems are the winner. These newer methods give us access to difficult to reach glass and the clean lasts longer.
How does it work? There are two primary components: filtration and delivery.
There is nothing wrong with the cleaning power of tap water… so why filter it? Because tap water contains many minerals and other solids which will leave behind spots and marks when it dries. Think of it this way: after you’ve been swimming in the ocean all day and the water dries off, what is left on your skin? Salt. When tap water dries on glass a similar thing happens. The water evaporates, but the minerals are left behind.
In additions to that, Brisbane’s water is “hard” and contains a lot of dissolved solids. For example, Melbourne’s water tests for total dissolved solids (tds) at about 30 parts per million (ppm), whereas Brisbane’s water is usually around 250ppm!
By process of deionised filtration, we remove all the hardness from the water (Yes sir, that’s 000 ppm!) so that when the glass dries: no water spots, or unsightly marks! And all without any chemicals. Sceptical? After many years of traditional window cleaning, we were too at first; but the truth is this is one of the best methods available!
Delivery is all about thoroughly scrubbing the window and getting the purified water to rinse the glass. Using carbon fibre water fed extension poles we can reach windows 40 feet high whilst safely standing on the ground. Super cool hey!
What about the scrub? We use special long bristled brushes and pads to remove the dirt, bird deposits and other grime. The ends of the bristles work like microfibre, cleaning right into the pores of the glass, as well as working the dirt out of the edges, seals and sills. This is why the clean lasts longer. Less dirt around the glass and no chemical residue means clean glass, and for longer.
What are ions in water?
Tap water contains more than just H20. It also has dissolved salts and heavy metals. These minerals have either a positive or negative electrical charge. This ‘charge’ is referred to as an ‘ion’. Mineral ions such as sodium, calcium, iron, and copper, are positively charged and called “cation”. Whereas chloride and sulfate are negatively charged and called “anion”.
How is water deionised?
After carbon filtering to remove chemicals like chlorine, the water passes through a filtration tank containing ion-exchange resin. Some of the resin attracts cation particles and the rest of the resin targets the anion particles. Thus the mineral elements are removed from the water, leaving the water pure. This means your glass will be spot and streak free after a thorough clean and rinse.
Does it make a difference whether the water is purified by deionised (DI) or reverse osmosis (RO) filtration?
There is no difference for you as a customer and the results of the cleaning. The choice is really for the operator and what works best for his business. Interestingly most RO systems still rely on a DI component to produce cleaning quality water. At Hybrid Window Cleaning DI does the job for us!
What is the difference between deionised and deionized?
Just the spelling. US spelling favors the “z” whilst British spelling uses the “s”.
Does your water filtration system waste a lot of water?
Not at all. Water fed pole window cleaning is not like pressure washing. The cleaning power is not achieved by high water pressure but by special brushes. After scrubbing the final rinsing actually works better with a slow flow of water. So comparatively speaking, we use less water than an average household uses in the shower each day!
